India completed over 1 crore biometric updates for schoolchildren aged 5–15 in a nationwide Aadhaar drive.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed over 1 crore mandatory biometric updates for schoolchildren across 83,000 schools in a nationwide drive launched in September 2025.
The effort, using data from the UDISE+ system, targeted children aged 5 and 15 who need updated fingerprints and iris scans for Aadhaar authentication, crucial for accessing government benefits and exams like NEET and JEE.
Fees were waived for children aged 7–15 from October 1, 2025, for one year, while younger and older groups continue to receive free updates.
The campaign, involving coordination among UIDAI, state education departments, and school authorities, has also processed about 1.3 crore updates at enrolment centers, with work ongoing until all schools are covered.
