Greece's defense minister advocates for structured Indian migration to Europe amid demographic challenges.
Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said the Indian subcontinent could be a top source for legal migration to Europe due to Europe’s ageing population and near-negative growth, creating demand for young workers.
Speaking at the India-EU Forum 2026 in New Delhi, he called for structured migration policies that benefit both countries and stronger global cooperation to combat illegal migration driven by smuggling networks.
He highlighted historical ties between Greece and India, referencing Alexander the Great’s campaign, and emphasized the forum’s role in advancing cooperation on trade, security, technology, and geopolitics following the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
The event brought together over 200 officials and experts from India and Europe.
