Cosatu is urging President Cyril Ramaphosa to deliver bold reforms in his February 12, 2026, State of the Nation Address, calling for urgent action to tackle South Africa’s 42.4% unemployment, sluggish growth, and failing public services.
The union demands expanded job creation, faster state-owned enterprise reforms, prepaid electricity, improved public transport, stronger law enforcement, and a major stimulus package.
It also pushes for increased social grants, expanded youth employment programs, and higher tax compliance to generate R200 billion in revenue, warning that without decisive action, economic stagnation and public distrust will worsen.
