Canadian figure skater Maddie Schizas, a 22-year-old McMaster University student, asked her professor for an assignment extension after missing the deadline due to competing in the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
She mistakenly believed the due date was Sunday, but it was Friday, the same day she performed in the women’s short program during the team event.
Schizas, Canada’s sole women’s singles entry, shared an email with a Canadian Olympic Committee press release as proof.
Team Canada placed fifth in the team event after the first day, with the U.S. leading.
The team event continues with the men’s short program and concludes on February 8 with final segments.
