Ugandan military leader Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa died on Feb. 7, 2026, from stroke complications after months in hospital.
Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, Uganda’s Deputy Commander of Land Forces, died on February 7, 2026, at 0600 hours at the UPDF National Referral Hospital in Mbuya from complications related to a stroke.
He had been hospitalized since December 9, 2025, initially at Nakasero Hospital, before being transferred to the military hospital.
A veteran since 1989, Takirwa held key command and staff positions, including leading the UPDF’s Second Division and serving in Somalia under AMISOM.
Born in 1965 in Mbarara, he trained in Uganda, Tanzania, China, Egypt, and South Africa.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
