Two Kelso High grads, Jaxon Saxby and Liam O'Brien, achieved national and international acclaim as chefs, spotlighted during their school’s 50th anniversary.
In 2026, Kelso High School’s 50th anniversary spotlight includes alumni Jaxon Saxby and Liam O'Brien, both celebrated chefs who rose from regional New South Wales roots to achieve national and international acclaim.
Saxby, a 2003 graduate, earned recognition in Sydney, New York, and London, and now leads Raes on Wategos in Byron Bay, where his modern Australian-Mediterranean cuisine holds two Good Food Guide hats.
O'Brien, after training in Bathurst and Orange, worked at top restaurants abroad, including a luxury resort in the Turks and Caicos, before opening Charred Kitchen and Bar in Orange, which has earned multiple awards, including two Good Food Guide hats and a Wine Spectator Award.
Their success reflects the strong culinary legacy of Kelso High.
