Sonia Gandhi’s legal team opposes a criminal petition over her 1983 voter registration, calling it baseless and politically driven.
Sonia Gandhi has opposed a criminal revision petition in a Delhi court, calling it politically motivated and baseless, in response to allegations that her name appeared on the New Delhi electoral roll before she acquired Indian citizenship in 1983.
Her legal team argued the claims lack credible evidence, rely on media reports and speculation, and that citizenship and voter roll matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Central Government and Election Commission, not criminal courts.
The petition, filed by advocate Vikas Tripathi, seeks to overturn a September 2025 magistrate’s dismissal of the original complaint, which was rejected for lack of jurisdiction and procedural flaws.
The case is set for hearing on February 21.
