Pakistan faces rising vaccine costs after losing affordable Indian supplies post-2025 conflict, risking $1.2B annual imports without local production.
Pakistan’s economy is under strain after losing access to affordable vaccines from India following the May 2025 conflict, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said on February 7, 2026.
The country, which previously relied on GAVI to import low-cost vaccines from India, now pays 51% of its $400 million annual vaccine bill, with international support set to end by 2031.
Without domestic production, imports could cost $1.2 billion annually.
Pakistan provides 13 vaccines free of charge to its 240 million people but produces none locally, prompting efforts to develop self-sufficiency.
