Loretta Carr of Fort Payne, Alabama, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder and kidnapping in the 2021 death of Mary Elizabeth Isbell, who was pushed off Wolf Creek Overlook at Little River Canyon.
Prosecutors say Carr and her daughter, Jessie Eden Kelly, confronted Isbell over alleged romantic involvement with Kelly’s partner, abducted her, and took her to the overlook where Carr forced her over the edge.
Isbell’s body was found in 2023.
Carr avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty before her trial, scheduled for March 2026, and received a life sentence plus 20 years for kidnapping.
Kelly pleaded guilty in August 2025.
The district attorney called the crime a senseless tragedy that devastated Isbell’s family.
