India completes rail project reports for Jammu and Kashmir, pending approvals.
The Ministry of Railways has completed Detailed Project Reports for two rail projects in Jammu and Kashmir: the 118-km Qazigund-Srinagar-Budgam doubling and the 40-km Baramulla-Uri new line, aimed at improving border region connectivity.
These follow the recently commissioned 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link, which created over 5 crore man-days of employment and built 215 km of approach roads.
A proposed Sopore-Kupwara line was dropped due to infeasibility.
The new projects await stakeholder consultations and government approvals, including from NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Finance, with no fixed timelines.
