Illinois may face 25–30 cent gas price hikes this summer unless Gov. Pritzker reinstates a federal E10 waiver.
Illinois gas prices could rise 25 to 30 cents per gallon this summer if Governor J.B. Pritzker doesn’t reinstate a federal waiver allowing year-round E10 gasoline sales, the Illinois Fuel and Retail Association warns.
The state, along with five Midwestern states, opted out of the waiver, hoping for a federal mandate on year-round E15 sales, but without action, higher fuel costs and inventory issues may arise.
IFRA urges Pritzker to follow Ohio’s lead and request the E10 waiver’s reinstatement, which is likely to be approved.
Delaying could lead to higher prices and reduced state tax revenue, given Illinois’ 48.3-cent-per-gallon fuel tax.
The average price in Illinois is now $3.035, above the national average.
The governor’s office has not responded.
Illinois puede enfrentar 25-30 centavos de aumento en el precio de la gasolina este verano a menos que el gobernador Pritzker restablece una exención federal E10.
