FIU unveiled a Reagan statue on his 115th birthday, part of DeSantis’s push to promote anti-communist legacy and support Cuba’s democratic transition.
On February 6, 2026, Florida International University unveiled a 7.5-foot bronze statue of President Ronald Reagan, created by Cuban American artist Carlos Enrique Prado, at its Reagan Presidential House in Miami on what would have been his 115th birthday.
Governor Ron DeSantis and FIU President Jeanette Nuñez attended the ceremony, emphasizing Reagan’s anti-communist legacy and its resonance with South Florida’s Cuban-American community.
The event marked the launch of a new FIU initiative to support Cuba’s potential transition to democracy, involving experts in governance, public health, law, engineering, and national security.
The statue is part of DeSantis’s broader effort to install presidential monuments across Florida.
