A 51-year-old Surrey man was stopped by B.C. Highway Patrol on Feb. 4, 2026, for speeding at 197 km/h on the Alex Fraser Bridge, more than double the 70 km/h limit. Police used laser technology to record the violation while the man, who claimed he was showing Metro Vancouver to out-of-country cousins, was driving a Lamborghini SUV. He faces multiple fines, a seven-day vehicle impound, towing fees, and insurance premiums exceeding $2,500. Authorities stressed that bridges are not exempt from speed enforcement and warned of the extreme dangers of high-speed driving. No injuries were reported.
