The World Economic Forum is investigating CEO Borge Brende over past meetings with Jeffrey Epstein, whom he didn’t know was a convicted sex offender.
The World Economic Forum has launched an independent investigation into CEO Borge Brende over his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, following U.S. Justice Department disclosures that Brende attended three business dinners with Epstein in 2018 and 2019 and exchanged limited emails and texts.
Brende, who led the forum since 2017, said he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal history at the time, regretted not conducting a deeper background check, and stated he would have declined the meetings had he known.
He supports the review, which is being conducted by the WEF’s Audit and Risk Committee, and will continue serving as CEO during the process.
The forum emphasized its commitment to transparency and integrity.
