UK warns of contaminated alcohol-free wipes linked to 59 infections and one death since 2018.
UK health officials have reiterated a warning to avoid four non-sterile alcohol-free wipe brands—ValueAid, Microsafe, Steroplast Sterowipe, and Reliwipe—after a bacterial outbreak linked to Burkholderia stabilis caused 59 infections and one death since 2018.
The UKHSA and MHRA confirmed contamination, leading to product removal from sale in July 2025, but some may still be in homes.
Officials stress these wipes should never be used on broken skin, wounds, or IV lines, and urge the public to check first aid kits, stop using affected products, and dispose of them safely.
The risk remains low, but vulnerable individuals are at higher risk.
