The UK is maintaining its ban on personal imports of cattle, sheep, goat, and pig meat and dairy products from EU countries, including Spain, France, Italy, and Greece, to prevent the spread of animal diseases like foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever.
The restrictions, in effect since April 2025, apply to all travelers returning to Great Britain, regardless of how items are purchased or packaged, and violations may result in confiscation, destruction of goods, or fines up to £5,000.
Despite the EU being recognized as free from foot-and-mouth disease by the World Organisation for Animal Health, the UK continues the measures due to ongoing biosecurity risks from outbreaks in Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria.
