Two men pleaded guilty in a 2025 scam targeting an Iowa senior, with one sentenced to 25 years and the other receiving deferred judgment.
Two men, Sanjeev Kumar of Kentucky and Abdul Samad Hussin Ahmadbin of Illinois, pleaded guilty to roles in a government impersonation scam targeting an Iowa senior in June 2025. Kumar was sentenced to up to 25 years in prison for facilitating a criminal network, with a restitution hearing set for March 16, 2026. Ahmadbin received a deferred judgment after pleading guilty to theft in the fourth degree. In July 2025, law enforcement executed a sting operation at the victim’s home, arresting the suspects under the pretense of collecting gold. The Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force collaborated on the operation. Authorities urge Iowans to report suspected fraud to state or local agencies.
