The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is set to reopen on February 17, 2026, after a three-year, 820 million yuan ($118.2 million) renovation.
The upgrade expanded exhibition space to 21,000 square meters and introduced 926 exhibits, 80% interactive and 87% original, covering energy, aviation, and information technologies.
Highlights include a VR-enabled 1930s Ford Tri-motor plane replica, power-generating bicycles, and displays featuring nuclear fusion components and early aviation engines.
The museum improved energy efficiency by over 15% and added a 1,300-square-meter innovation lab for youth and adult science programs.
It passed a stress test in January and will open for trial operations during the Spring Festival.
