Romania and Georgia advanced a Black Sea HVDC cable project to boost energy security and renewables integration.
Romania and Georgia signed a memorandum to advance the Georgia-Romania Black Sea HVDC submarine cable project, a key energy infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting regional energy security, diversifying transmission routes, and integrating renewable energy.
The project, included in EU’s Ten-Year Network Development Plans and designated a Project of Mutual Interest in December 2025, supports broader European energy goals and regional cooperation.
Romania is also strengthening Black Sea security ahead of the 2027 launch of its Neptun Deep offshore gas project, amid ongoing Russian drone incursions and maritime threats.
