A man in Salem was arrested for trying to set fire to a home with gasoline on Feb. 5.
A 32-year-old Salem man, Jacob Braun, was arrested on February 5, 2026, in Newport after allegedly attempting to set fire to a home on Landon Street Southeast using gasoline and a lighter.
Police say he poured gasoline on the porch and walls but failed to ignite it.
No injuries occurred, and the fire was contained.
Braun was taken into custody during a traffic stop and booked into Marion County Jail on a first-degree attempted arson charge.
The Salem Police Department is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, a separate two-alarm apartment fire broke out in Southeast Portland on February 6, prompting a major emergency response, with the cause still under investigation.
