India's Supreme Court lifts 2017 ban on BJP MP Anurag Thakur, allowing him to return to BCCI.
The Supreme Court of India has lifted a 2017 ban on BJP MP and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, allowing him to resume participation in the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, ruled the lifelong restriction was disproportionate and no longer justified, citing Thakur’s unconditional apology and nearly nine years of disengagement.
The decision modifies the original order that stemmed from contempt proceedings over a disputed affidavit related to ICC communications and the Lodha Committee reforms.
Thakur may now rejoin BCCI activities in accordance with its rules.
