Indian teacher and activist Rouble Nagi has won the $1 million Global Teacher Prize for establishing over 800 learning centers across India, particularly in underserved communities, and creating educational murals in slums to promote literacy, science, math, and history.
Recognized at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on February 5, 2026, Nagi’s work, through her Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, began with 30 children 24 years ago and now reaches over a million children.
She plans to use the prize money to launch a free vocational training institute.
The award, presented by the Varkey Foundation, honors her courage, creativity, and dedication to education in marginalized areas.
UNESCO praised her impact, and Nagi is the 10th recipient since the prize’s 2015 inception, joining past winners from Kenya, Palestine, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
