A Ghanaian businessman was charged with threatening a cop with a loaded gun at a court on Feb. 3, 2026, and was granted bail.
A 59-year-old businessman, Seth Welbeck, appeared in Accra Circuit Court on February 6, 2026, charged with threatening a police officer with a loaded Smith and Wesson SD9 VE pistol and unlawfully possessing the firearm, which had 10 rounds and serial number FYS4759.
The incident occurred at a court premises on February 3, 2026, after Welbeck, under investigation for alleged forgery and granted bail, requested to retrieve his vehicle.
While being escorted by officers Prince Okoh and Margaret Nando, Welbeck allegedly pulled the gun and pointed it at Okoh.
The officer struck his hand, causing the weapon to fall, and Welbeck was restrained by witness Michael Obeng Ntim.
The court, presided over by Judge Joojo Amoah, granted him bail of GH¢200,000 secured by two sureties with landed property, and adjourned the case to March 3, 2026.
The prosecution presented evidence, including the firearm’s details, during the hearing.
