Gangster George Marrogi claims cruel treatment at Barwon Prison, alleging prolonged isolation and abuse while serving a 38-year sentence.
Gangland prisoner George Marrogi, serving a 38-year sentence, claims he faces cruel treatment at Barwon Prison, alleging authorities punish him for running a drug operation from behind bars using prison phones.
Appearing in court via videolink, he said he’s been isolated for nine years, spending up to 23 hours daily in his cell with minimal contact, no face-to-face staff interactions, and limited access to open air.
His legal team cited sleep deprivation, hunger strikes without governor visits, non-compliant strip searches, and being left unclothed.
While he previously won partial access to open air, prison officials cite a 2025 security incident and failed reintegration attempts to justify ongoing restrictions.
The case continues before Justice Claire Harris.
