C. Lowry Barnes has been officially named chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), succeeding Cam Patterson.
Barnes, who served as interim chancellor since July 2025, was selected after a national search and public forum in December 2025.
A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and longtime UAMS faculty member, he brings extensive leadership and research experience.
His appointment, effective immediately, reflects the board’s confidence in his ability to lead UAMS in advancing healthcare, research, and education across Arkansas.
