Bangladesh seeks UN probe into assassination of opposition leader Sharif Osman Hadi, killed in Dhaka Dec. 12, 2025.
Bangladesh’s interim government announced on February 6, 2026, it will request a United Nations investigation into the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a 32-year-old Islamist leader and opposition figure, who was fatally shot in Dhaka on December 12, 2025, and died in Singapore on December 18.
The move, confirmed by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, follows protests by Hadi’s supporters demanding a UN-supervised probe.
The government pledged full cooperation with any inquiry, while police have charged 17 individuals in connection with the assassination, alleging a plot orchestrated in Singapore.
The case remains a focal point amid ongoing political tensions and preparations for upcoming elections.
