An 18-year-old Penn State hockey player and top NHL prospect was charged with felony assault after allegedly breaking a man’s jaw in a post-game incident.
Following an alleged incident on January 31, 2026, in State College, Pennsylvania, 18-year-old Gavin McKenna, a forward for Penn State and a top NHL draft prospect, was charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, simple assault, and two counts of disorderly conduct.
The charges are related to an alleged altercation that happened following a Beaver Stadium game in which McKenna scored a goal and provided two assists in a 5-4 overtime defeat to Michigan State.
According to reports, the victim had a broken jaw that needed surgery.
A preliminary hearing has been set for McKenna, who is expected to be the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
McKenna was released on $20,000 unsecured bail.
Citing the ongoing legal process, Penn State declined to comment despite confirming awareness of the charges.
