A UK couple and a care home manager were jailed for faking a will to steal £133,000 from an elderly, vulnerable woman.
A Brierley Hill care home couple, Graham and Lyn Walker, were each jailed for three years after being convicted in a major fraud case involving the theft of £133,000 from 85-year-old Rita Barnsley.
They conspired with care home manager Jamiel Slaney-Summers to forge a will using inconsistent handwriting and multiple inks, falsely transferring Barnsley’s assets to themselves and Slaney-Summers.
The scam was uncovered after Barnsley’s cousin raised concerns about the will’s wording and financial irregularities, including a £6,000 theft.
Barnsley, who was frail and isolated, died in 2021; her original will had named her cousin as the primary beneficiary.
The court condemned the betrayal of trust, emphasizing the vulnerability of elderly care home residents.
