UAW and Volkswagen agree to first foreign-owned Southern U.S. plant union contract after 2024 vote.
The United Auto Workers and Volkswagen have reached a tentative contract agreement at the automaker’s Tennessee plant, the first foreign-owned plant in the Southern U.S. to unionize via a certified election since the 1940s.
The deal, following a 73% worker vote in April 2024, includes a 20% wage increase over the contract term, improved healthcare, and stronger job security.
The agreement now heads to a worker ratification vote.
The milestone follows a 2023 UAW strike at major U.S. automakers that set a precedent for higher wages.
