Serbian officials indicted over forged documents to develop a historic Belgrade site linked to Jared Kushner.
Serbian Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic and three other officials appeared in court on February 4, 2026, charged with abuse of office and forging documents to remove protected status from a historic Belgrade military complex, a move intended to enable a luxury development linked to Jared Kushner.
The site, designed by architect Nikola Dobrović and damaged in the 1999 NATO bombing, is a symbol of national memory and a protected cultural landmark.
The project, backed by President Aleksandar Vucic to strengthen U.S. ties, was abandoned after the indictments, with Kushner’s company citing public opposition.
All defendants pleaded not guilty.
The trial coincided with political tensions over judicial reforms, EU criticism, and ongoing protests following a deadly 2024 train station collapse in Novi Sad.
