Oravida, a New Zealand bottled water company, launched a 144-kW solar farm at its Otakiri plant, powering two-thirds of its operations and cutting emissions, to meet global sustainability demands.
Oravida, a New Zealand bottled water company, has completed a 144-kilowatt ground-mounted solar farm at its Otakiri plant, becoming the first in the country’s bottled water industry to integrate large-scale solar power directly into production.
The system supplies about two-thirds of the plant’s daily electricity, primarily during peak hours, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 960kg annually and improving energy resilience in a rural area prone to outages.
The renewable energy project supports Oravida’s expansion into luxury hotel markets in Asia, North America, and Australasia, where sustainability and verified carbon reporting are now key supplier requirements.
The company, which exports 85% of its output, expects a 40% increase in volumes by 2026–27 as it enters the Australian market and prepares for U.S. growth.
It is also introducing aluminum bottles to reach new premium and outdoor hospitality segments.
