Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss denied sixth year of eligibility due to lack of medical proof, despite strong 2025 season; lawsuit filed to overturn decision.
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been denied a sixth year of NCAA eligibility, the university confirmed on February 5, 2026, following a rejection of his appeal by the NCAA’s Athletics Eligibility Subcommittee.
The decision upholds an earlier January 9 denial of his medical redshirt waiver request, citing insufficient medical documentation despite Chambliss’ claims of respiratory issues that kept him from playing at Ferris State in 2022.
The 2025 season saw him lead Ole Miss to a 13-2 record and a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance, finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.
Ole Miss called the decision “indefensible” and said Chambliss’ legal team has filed a lawsuit in Mississippi state court seeking an injunction to allow him to play in 2026, with a hearing scheduled for February 12.
If the court does not intervene, he may enter the NFL draft.
