On February 5, 2026, New Zealand launched TradeBase, a hands-on construction program for high school students in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes, enabling them to build transportable homes on school grounds.
Partnered by Breen Construction, BCITO, and local schools, the initiative offers competency-based training, NCEA credits, and real-world experience, targeting students including those not in education or training.
With 28 participants across Dunstan, Wakatipu, and MSD, the program aims to strengthen the skilled trades pipeline and shift perceptions of trade careers.
