New South Wales awarded contracts for six large battery projects to boost renewable energy storage and grid stability.
New South Wales has awarded contracts for six long-duration battery storage projects, advancing its renewable energy transition.
Key developments include the Bowmans Creek BESS near Muswellbrook, with up to 2,414 MWh capacity, and the McCullys Gap BESS, proposed at 400 MW/1,600 MWh, both aiming to boost grid stability.
These projects, part of the state’s largest battery rollout, will store excess wind and solar energy for use during peak demand or low generation.
If approved, construction on McCullys Gap could begin in 2027.
The initiatives support NSW’s shift from coal to cleaner, more reliable power, with over 200 battery projects now in development across the state.
