Missouri AG sues MSHSAA over race/gender board seat policy, calling it unconstitutional.
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has sued the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), alleging its policy reserving board seats for under-represented racial or gender groups violates federal anti-discrimination laws.
The lawsuit, prompted by a whistleblower complaint that a candidate was disqualified based on race and sex, seeks a court declaration that the policy is unconstitutional and a ban on future disqualifications tied to race or gender.
The case is now before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, with state auditor Scott Fitzpatrick supporting the action, emphasizing that public-funded organizations must comply with civil rights laws.
MSHSAA has not responded publicly.
