Liberia’s NFAA budget misallocated to Agriculture Ministry, despite agency’s 2025 independence.
The National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) in Liberia, now an autonomous body since June 2025, says its $950,000 2026 budget was mistakenly assigned to the Ministry of Agriculture instead of being directly allocated to the agency.
Despite its legal independence, the NFAA continues to operate under the ministry’s oversight.
Director General Borkai A.M. Sirleaf is urging the Ministry of Finance to correct the error and has called on all government bodies to stop performing the agency’s statutory duties.
The NFAA has delivered food aid to over 6,600 people across eight counties and Monrovia using funding from the African Union, NASSCORP, and rice donations from the Ministry of Agriculture.
It also signed a partnership with the UN’s FAO in January 2026 to improve food security.
