Ireland’s HSE took control of Droimnín Nursing Home on Feb. 4, 2026, after safety violations led to closure and resident risks.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has taken over management of Droimnín Nursing Home in County Laois, Ireland, effective February 4, 2026, following a court order that canceled the facility’s registration due to serious risks to resident safety and health.
The move, made under the Health Act 2007, followed repeated failures identified by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), including non-compliance in eight of nine regulatory areas, inadequate care, and unsafe conditions.
An unexpected resident death in March 2025 prompted investigations by HIQA and the Health and Safety Authority.
The HSE now oversees care for about 39 residents, ensuring stability and continuity while a long-term solution is determined.
