India and the U.S. are close to finalizing a $3 billion deal for six P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy, aiming to boost monitoring of regional threats from China and Pakistan.
The acquisition, pending approval from India’s Defence Ministry and Cabinet Committee on Security, follows years of negotiations delayed by pricing.
The Indian Navy, already operating 12 P-8Is from Arakonam and Goa, plans to expand its unmanned surveillance with 15 MQ-9 Sea Guardian drones starting in 2029 and 87 Medium Altitude Long Endurance drones.
