IIT Madras launched the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA) on February 4, 2026, a public database offering genomic data from pediatric leukemia, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers.
Supported by ₹56 crore from Hyundai Motor India’s 'Hyundai Hope for Cancer' initiative and the Government of India’s Institutions of Eminence scheme, the project aims to advance India-specific cancer research, improve early detection, and support personalized treatments.
The database, accessible at bcga.iitm.ac.in, complements the clinician-focused Bharat Cancer Genome Grid (BCG2) and addresses the underrepresentation of Indian patients in global cancer genomics.
The initiative includes screening camps, training, and outreach to expand access and support precision medicine in India.
