Idaho teacher sues over ban on classroom inclusivity sign, citing First Amendment rights.
Former Idaho middle school teacher Sarah Inama has sued state and district officials over a law banning public school displays of political, social, or religious messages, claiming her classroom sign reading “Everyone is Welcome Here” was a neutral, inclusive statement, not a political one.
She was ordered to remove the sign in early 2025 under Idaho House Bill 41, which prohibits such displays, and later resigned after being warned for rehanging it.
Inama argues the law violates her First Amendment rights and seeks a declaration that it is unconstitutional, damages, attorney fees, and an injunction to stop enforcement.
The lawsuit names multiple state and district officials as defendants and challenges both the law and the district’s policy on controversial issues.
