New York Governor Kathy Hochul has chosen Adrienne Adams, former New York City Council Speaker, as her running mate for the 2026 gubernatorial election, replacing Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, who is challenging her in the Democratic primary. Adams, a Queens native and the city’s first Black council speaker, brings experience in housing, affordability, and equity. The selection forms New York’s first all-female gubernatorial ticket. Hochul’s move aims to strengthen her downstate support, especially among working-class Black voters, as tensions grow with Delgado, who remains in office while campaigning. The primary election is set for June 23, 2026.
