Germany boosts defense spending and strengthens NATO ties under Chancellor Merz, amid shifting global power dynamics.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has positioned Germany as a key leader in Europe and the Atlantic alliance, asserting at the 2024 Davos summit that the post-Cold War order has ended due to Russia’s war in Ukraine and China’s rise, calling for responsible leadership amid great power competition.
