Gareth Delaney, 25, sentenced to 2.5 years for stealing €30K from a developer’s account, buying a BMW, and repaying the money.
Gareth Delaney, 25, of Roscommon, was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for stealing €30,214.29 from a Limerick property developer’s business account between December 31, 2024, and January 13, 2025.
He used the victim’s bank details to fraudulently buy a BMW X5 worth €27,000 and other items, later returning the car and repaying the money.
Authorities traced him via CCTV footage of the car pickup and text messages on his phone.
Delaney admitted he had no right to the funds, had no prior theft convictions, and cited undiagnosed ADHD and financial stress as contributing factors.
The judge reduced the initial five-year sentence due to his guilty plea, remorse, and family support.
