A former Kashmir professor is charged with fraud for hiding her British citizenship to get a government job.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against Afshan Shabir, a former SKIMS Soura assistant professor, accusing her of fraudulently securing a government job by hiding her British citizenship and OCI status.
She falsely claimed Indian citizenship and permanent residency in Jammu and Kashmir when applying in 2019 under Advertisement Notice No.
04 of 2015.
Investigation revealed she held a British passport and OCI card, which disqualify her under recruitment rules, and submitted forged documents.
Her services were terminated in August 2022.
The case, under Sections 199 and 420 of the IPC, has been sent to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, for trial, raising concerns over eligibility and transparency in public sector hiring.
