DNA confirms remains of former Uralkali CEO Baumgertner found on UK base in Cyprus; cause of death unknown.
The remains of Vladislav Baumgertner, former CEO of Russian potash company Uralkali, have been identified on a British military base in southern Cyprus through DNA analysis, British authorities confirmed. Baumgertner went missing on January 7 near Limassol and his body was found a week later in a gorge on the base, where advanced decomposition initially prevented identification. The cause of death remains unknown. He had previously gained international attention in 2013 during a dispute with Belarusian state firm Belaruskali, known as the "potash war," leading to his arrest and house arrest before extradition to Russia, with charges later dropped. His body is expected to be repatriated to Moscow for funeral arrangements.
