The CIA is ending the World Factbook after 64 years due to budget cuts and staff reductions under Trump’s second term.
The Central Intelligence Agency has announced it will discontinue the World Factbook, a widely used reference tool since 1962 that provided detailed data on countries' economies, militaries, populations, and infrastructure.
Originally classified for intelligence officers, it became publicly available in the 1970s and drew millions of annual visits after going online in 1997.
The decision follows a directive from CIA Director John Ratcliffe to focus on core missions amid staffing reductions at the CIA and NSA during the early months of President Trump’s second term.
The agency provided no specific explanation for the closure and did not respond to requests for comment, marking the end of over six decades of public access to the resource.
