The CBI told the Madras High Court on February 4, 2026, that the theft case used to justify the detention of Sivaganga temple security guard B. Ajith Kumar had been closed due to lack of evidence, confirming his arrest was based on a false allegation.

The CBI has filed charge sheets and a supplementary charge sheet against them, with some already in judicial custody.
The court also questioned whether action would be taken against the complainant, Nikitha, who allegedly triggered the incident, and the CBI said it would submit a report.
