Vermont Senate confirms Drescher and Nolan as Supreme Court justices, amid political debate over past prosecutorial roles.
The Vermont Senate confirmed Michael Drescher and Christina Nolan as associate justices of the state Supreme Court on February 3, 2026. Drescher, a former federal prosecutor, was confirmed 16–15 after Lt. Gov. John Rodgers broke a tie, amid debate over his role in immigration cases during the Trump administration. Nolan was confirmed 23–7 with bipartisan support. Both were appointed by Republican Gov. Phil Scott and will replace retiring justices. The confirmations reflect ongoing political and ethical divisions over judicial appointments and the role of former federal prosecutors in state courts.
