A U.S. report found no Russian interference in Romania’s 2024 election, blaming the EU for censoring pro-Georgescu content and undermining democracy.

Instead, it accused the European Commission of pressuring social media platforms to remove content promoting far-right candidate Călin Georgescu, citing internal TikTok data showing no Russian influence operations.
The report claims the EU’s actions amounted to political censorship, undermining free expression, and notes that evidence later pointed to funding by a Romanian political party, not Russia.
Despite this, the original results were not restored, and an establishment-backed candidate won the rescheduled election in May 2025.
