Led by the Tiwi Plantations Corporation, representing all eight Tiwi clans, the initiative is backed by $81 million in funding from the federal green bank, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, and private investor River Capital, and managed by Midway.
The project prioritizes local employment, with Tiwi people already working in nursery operations, and aims to ensure long-term economic and environmental benefits remain within the community, marking a shift from past forestry efforts that often failed to serve the Tiwi or protect the environment.
